*box / ethernet modems with DHCP

A lot of providers use ethernet modems and the DHCP protocol. Thus the pump command can simply establish the connection. The following script can also automatize the connection at each boot.

Just download and run this script: box

...

Speedtouch USB/330

Note

This script has been fixed for Knoppix 5. I don't have this modem anymore and can not test it. Some users (not all) have reported that the connection is now possible with Knoppix 5.

Installation with kernels 2.4 and 2.6

Known modems:

  • Speed Touch USB
  • Speed Touch 330

This script allows the connection from Knoppix installed on the hard disk or from the live CD.

Note

This script (not necessarily the last version) is included in Kaella and is found in the Knoppix menu.

Just download and run this script: speedtouch-usb

I hope this works because I can't make it simpler...

Sources

This script is a self-extracting archive. For the curious, here is how it is generated.

You'll need these files:

build
Archive generation script
adsl
Connection script
SpeedTouch330_firmware_3012.zip
Firmwares
firmware
Firmware extraction
usb.agent
Missing file for Knoppix 5
hotplug.functions
Missing file for Knoppix 5

The build script extracts the firmwares from the zip file and produces a tar bzip2-compressed file. This archive is then concatenated to a script that decompresses the archive and run the adsl script.

For further information, please visit Self-extracting Archive HOWTO.

Thanks

Yann Cochard
for choosing this script for Kaella,
Helmuth Breitenfellner
for the german translation,
knoppix-fr.org
for many tests and remarks,
and ...
all these I forget.
